Question Best eSIM Cards for Europe and Cruise Ships?

I'm planning a trip to Europe in October and also considering a cruise. I've been researching eSIM cards for hours, but there's so much info out there, it's overwhelming. Does anyone have recommendations for reliable eSIM cards that work well across multiple European countries and possibly on cruise ships? I'm looking for something with good coverage and decent data plans. Any tips or experiences would be super helpful!

For your Europe trip (plus possible cruise), I highly recommend Jetpac. It’s one of the most reliable and traveler-friendly eSIM options out there. It covers 30+ European countries with one eSIM, perfect for multi-country trips. Supports hotspot sharing. Install the Jetpac eSIM before you leave and activate it when you land in Europe.

I’ve been looking into this too and totally get how overwhelming it can be with all the options out there. For Europe, I’ve had a good experience with Airalo — they offer regional eSIMs like their “Eurolink” plan which works in most European countries and is super easy to activate. Another popular one is Holafly, which offers unlimited data in some plans, though it tends to be pricier. I also came across a blog called thetravellio where people were discussing different eSIMs, and it had some useful comparisons.

As for cruise ships, it gets trickier. Most eSIMs don’t work once you're out at sea since they rely on land-based towers. Your best bet for onboard connectivity is usually the ship’s Wi-Fi packages, even though they’re not cheap or particularly fast. Just make sure to turn off roaming while at sea so you don’t rack up huge charges from satellite networks.

eSIM Options for Europe:
Mobimatter covers 37+ countries, 5G support, starts at $5 for 1GB/7 days. Saily does 40+ countries with ad-blocking features, same price range. Airalo’s similar but includes calls/texts on global plans. All three work in most EU spots—no single-country plans unless you’re staying put.

Cruises?
eSIMs tap into land-based towers, so they’re dead once you’re offshore. Ship Wi-Fi’s your only bet, and it’s $$$. Check if your cruise offers pre-paid packages—usually cheaper than buying onboard. Satellite plans exist but cost 3-4x more; not worth it unless you’re remote-working mid-ocean.

Costs:
- 1GB/week: ~$5
- 10GB/month: ~$25
- “Unlimited” plans (Holafly/Saily) throttle after 5-10GB.

Pick This If:
- Mobimatter: You want balance—decent app, no frills.
- Saily: Privacy matters (blocks trackers/ads).
- Airalo: Need calls/texts bundled.

Setup Tips:
- Activate before flying—airport Wi-Fi’s a gamble.
- Regional > country-specific plans.
- Cruise internet? Treat it as a separate budget line.
