Hi everyone, my husband and I (late 50s, early 60s) are planning to spend the first week of March in Sicily and are looking for advice on choosing a home base or two. We're flying into either Catania or Palermo and are drawn to small Italian towns and ancient ruins. Places like Villa Romana del Casale, Ortigia, and Cefalu caught our eye, but we're open to other suggestions. We're considering renting a car unless train travel is surprisingly efficient. For those who've explored Sicily, which towns would you recommend as home bases for a mix of history, charm, and accessibility to other sites?

For a mix of history, charm, and accessibility, I’d recommend Taormina and Ragusa as home bases. Taormina offers stunning views of Mount Etna, ancient Greek theaters, and a charming old town, while Ragusa is a UNESCO World Heritage site with baroque architecture and a slower pace. Both are well-connected by car, making it easy to explore nearby ruins and towns like Villa Romana del Casale. Have you considered these options?
