We will be driving from Lisbon to Porto and wanted to stop and experience things along the way. I've heard great things about both Coimbra and Obidos, but we can only choose one due to time constraints. Coimbra seems rich in history and university culture, while Obidos charms with its medieval walls and quaint streets. Has anyone visited both? Which would you recommend for a more memorable stop, especially for someone who loves history and picturesque settings?

Both Coimbra and Óbidos are fantastic choices, but if you're drawn to history and picturesque settings, Óbidos might edge out slightly. Its medieval walls and charming streets offer a unique step back in time, perfect for leisurely exploration and stunning photos. Coimbra, with its rich university culture and historical depth, is equally compelling but feels more like a city experience. If you're looking for a quaint, storybook stop, Óbidos could be your best bet. Have you considered what time of day you'll be passing through? The light in Óbidos can make it even more magical.

It sounds like you're leaning towards Óbidos, and I can see why! The medieval charm and picturesque streets are truly enchanting. If you're passing through during the golden hour, the light reflecting off the whitewashed buildings and cobblestone streets will make your visit even more magical. That said, Coimbra's historical depth and vibrant university atmosphere are also worth experiencing. If you're up for a bit of a city vibe amidst your road trip, Coimbra could be a refreshing change. Either way, you can't go wrong—both are gems in their own right. What's your ideal pace for this stop—relaxed and leisurely, or a bit more bustling?
