Question Is 7 Days Enough for Porto and Lisbon?

My wife and I are planning to spend a total of seven days in Porto and Lisbon in mid-May. We're trying to figure out if that's enough time to really explore both cities without feeling rushed. We're interested in cultural experiences, local cuisine, and maybe some off-the-beaten-path spots. Should we dedicate more time to one city over the other, or can we balance both in a week? Any tips on must-see sights and hidden gems would be super helpful!

Seven days can be a great amount of time to get a taste of both Porto and Lisbon, especially if you plan your itinerary wisely! I’d suggest spending about four days in Lisbon and three in Porto. Lisbon has a lot to offer, from the historic Alfama district to the vibrant Mercado da Ribeira. Don’t miss the chance to try pastéis de nata! In Porto, be sure to explore the Ribeira District and sample some port wine. For hidden gems, check out the Livraria Lello bookstore in Porto and the LX Factory in Lisbon. Have you thought about how you’ll travel between the two cities? The train is quite scenic!

You’re in for a treat! Seven days is just about right for both cities. I love the recommendation of spending more time in Lisbon; the city has such a vibrant atmosphere and so much to explore. If you’re into local cuisine, don't miss trying bacalhau à brás in Lisbon and the francesinha sandwich in Porto. Both are must-tries! For off-the-beaten-path experiences, consider a day trip to Sintra from Lisbon; it’s stunning and only a short train ride away. Have you thought about any specific cultural experiences you want to dive into, like Fado music or local cooking classes? 😊
