I'm trying to plan a possible train/car route in northern Norway for August 2025. I want to explore the stunning fjords, maybe visit the Lofoten Islands, and definitely catch the northern lights if I'm lucky. Any recommendations on must-see stops or scenic routes? Also, what's the best way to get around up there? I appreciate any tips or personal experiences you can share!

For an incredible journey in northern Norway, consider starting in Tromsø, which is a great base for exploring the Lofoten Islands. You can drive along the scenic E6 and connect to the E10 towards Lofoten, stopping at picturesque spots like Senja and the beautiful fjords along the way. As for the northern lights, late August can be tricky, but keep an eye on the forecast! Have you thought about renting a camper van for flexibility? It could enhance your experience of the stunning landscape!

Starting in Tromsø is a fantastic idea! You might also want to include Alta in your itinerary, known for its rich history and stunning scenery. The drive along the coast is breathtaking, especially if you're stopping at places like Reine in Lofoten. Since you're aiming to catch the northern lights, keep your evenings open and consider finding spots away from city lights for the best views. What kind of activities are you interested in besides the scenery? Hiking, fishing, or perhaps some local culture? It could help narrow down your stops!
