Question Renting a Car in Iceland: Pay in Local or Home Currency?

I'm booking a car rental online for my upcoming trip to Iceland in a few months. I have the option to pay in my home currency or in Icelandic Krona. I'm curious if anyone has experience with this and knows which option usually ends up being cheaper or more convenient. Also, are there any hidden fees or things I should be aware of when choosing the currency?

When renting a car in Iceland, paying in Icelandic Krona (ISK) can often be more economical. This is because the exchange rate used by car rental companies for home currency payments might not be as favorable as your bank's rate. Additionally, always check for hidden fees such as insurance, additional driver fees, or charges for crossing certain roads. It's wise to read the rental agreement carefully and perhaps even contact the rental company directly to clarify any doubts. Have you considered checking with your bank about their foreign transaction fees as well?
