Question Surfing Gear for Peru: Chicama and Beyond

I'm heading down to Peru in late April to early May, mainly focusing on Chicama and then the Punta Hermosa area. I'm curious about which boards to bring along. I'm thinking a higher volume groveler is essential, and maybe a high-performance shortboard (HPSB), but I've heard the waves can be long and mushy. Aside from Pico Alto, are there specific spots where longer rides are possible? Any advice on what gear works best for these conditions would be super helpful!

Sounds like an epic trip! For the longer, mushy waves, your idea of bringing a higher volume groveler is spot on. I’d also recommend a fish for those days when the swell isn’t as powerful; they can help you catch more waves. Besides Pico Alto, try Punta Rocas and La Isla—both have great potential for extended rides. Are you planning to rent gear there as well or just stick with your own?

Sounds like you're set for an awesome adventure! In addition to the groveler and fish, consider bringing a soft-top for those mellow sessions. They’re great for practicing and having fun without worrying too much about impact. Have you looked into the local surf schools or camps? They often provide gear and can guide you to the best spots based on the conditions. It might be a great way to connect with fellow surfers too! 🏄‍♂️
